I have been looking for a cheaper , dare i say greener way to build for 2 years now and while scanning a magazine for ideas i came across "cob" and began a study on it. This is the picture that had my interest and it was built for less then half the price of brick and morter. Since then i have found cob homes even in my area "garden route" South Africa Its been done for century's and im at a loss to understand why we stopped building this way. Now my next task is to try for planning permission and see what council officials have to say about it. I have my design and have drawn up plans , now to start!
Hi Luke. Did you get anywhere with the planning permission? Are you still looking to build or is the project underway/on hold? I've not seen anything specific published online pertaining to "natural builds" and ZA build regulations - I'm hoping to learn as much as possible before we return to the Cape. Many thanks, Loubser
